Final or End is too prophetic! They already have had Fifth Gear, which is odd to me, as if they can't drive any cars with 6 or more gears... If it happened they could come up with a totally different name, probably to avoid any complications as well.

When fifth gear started most cars did not have more than five gears :P

But I get your point. My point was that whatever happens "Top Gear" will be the end all of all automotive shows hence "Final Gear". :)

Very true. McL F1 and EB110s are 6 gears, the F40 is a 5 I think. I wonder which was the first to have 6, on of those two I would think. The Veyron has 7 but I'm not sure it was the first sports car with 7.

I don't know who made the first 6 speed, I do know that BMW had a 6 speed in the E36 though

The later e34 M5s also had a 6 speed. Not sure how much earlier they go in typical production cars.

No clue when 7 showed up.
